"Timothy" was a commission from the Gilbert White museum in Selbourne, Hampshire. This piece is based on the shell of the much loved and documented tortoise That belonged to Gilbert White in the 18th Century. This commision required extensive research into the Spur- thigh genus of tortoise, along with study of Gilbert's journals. The final piece shows Timothy "emerging from his winter slumbers" from beneath a Hepatica shrub.
Timothy Tortoise is now on show as a permanent sculpture in the kitchen garden at the museum.
Really enjoyed the unveiling on Saturday, and was honored to receive the De Laszlo Foundation medal of excellence for my research and final execution of the piece! I was presented the Award by Sandra and Damon De Laszlo during the unveiling ceremony and a short break in the weather!
I am hoping to get some of the official photos soon, but for now just a couple of phone pics.
